400 components is not available to manufacture a mobile phone in Nigeria – Samsung

Samsung Electronic Africa, CEO, Mr. Sung Yoon, on Thursday, said 400 components is required to manufacture a mobile phone but none is available in Nigeria.

He revealed that another reasons why Samsung could not establish a manufacturing plant in Nigeria is because the company’s market share in the country is not big enough.

Mr. Sung Yoon, pointed out that Samsung was the leading consumers electronic company in Nigeria, its share of the Nigeria market is smaller to South Africa, that its smartphone market size in South Africa is 80%, but lower in Nigeria.

He also pointed out that other issues that affect the building of manufacturing plant in the country are infrastructure, Return On Investment (ROI) and grey market.

My opinion

Is this an excuse or Samsung is trying to point out that Nigeria economy is too bad for their product. Anyway, we Nigerians prefer Apple products.

For him to point out five solid reasons why they could not manufacture their phone in Nigeria definitely means we Nigerians shouldn’t expect their company firm in the nearest future. What’s your say?
