Facebook introduce Hate Speech policy in Nigeria

There are lots of people on the internet, especially Nigerians, who feels to insult anything that relates to the government, which indirectly influence social media users to think negative of their leader. So, Facebook has introduced a new policy for Nigerian users to curb Hate Speech and we hope Twitter follows suite.

Recently, a Facebook user updated his status and the hate speech tool automatically popped out to detect the status. As shown below:

So, too much of Hate Speech detected from a user can automatically lead to the ban of the user’s account and however, I think it will reduce some hates from people’s mind and therefore, lead to the development of the country.

What’s your say concerning this Facebook new Hate Speech policy?

While I am in support of freedom of speech, I think we Nigerians actually went overboard with the way we insult other people. Especially when Ghanaians or other African countries are involved or buhari, I’ve been a part of it sha lolz. Buhari needs to be flogged – no hating.

I think it’s not cool to insult others online sha. I’ve been criticized once on nairaland and that day, I regretted posting what I wrote. I think the effects are still on me because I now think twice before posting something on the forum

Nairaland forum is a place of hate and tribalism. One has to leave emotion when posting. Don’t be emotional over their comments. After all, no one is better than other.
