Nigerians Introduced Super SIM Card and Digital Walking Stick, NCC Approved the Innovation

Nigerians are no more dulling as they have created two new features dubbed “Super SIM card” and the “Digital Walking Stick” that will surely bring great development to the telecommunication system in Nigeria.

A team of researchers from the University of Technology, Minna, comprises of students and scientists, led by the school’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abdullahi Bala, started the research since three years ago.

The first project called the “SIMless operator or Super SIM card” was said to improve the poor network. With just one SIM card, you can access the available networks without porting or buying multiple SIMs.

See the FUT, Minna, Vice Chancellor, Abdullahi Bala, statement about the first innovation (Super SIM card);

“We are talking about disrupting the ecosystem in the telecommunication industry in the sense that with just one SIM card, you can access the available networks without porting or buying multiple SIMS.

“People carry a lot of phones or SIMs these days as a result of poor quality service and the uncertainty of network strength of an area; so using basic engineering and the technology behind Mobile phone, we applied Artificial Intelligence, AI system to enable the device take intelligent decision on behalf of the user in switching from the network with poor quality service to another with better quality service.

“What this means is that immediately the product hits the market, subscribers would truly become kings as they can enjoy quality service even without having more than one phone.”

On the second project, the Digital Walking Stick, he explained that is a mobile phone embedded walking stick to aid users, especially the aged and blind to navigate through dangerous spots and make calls when necessary.

However, Nigerian Telecommunications Commission (NCC) saw that the innovations will bring a great benefit to the telecommunication industry, they dropped N4.7 million for the researchers to proceed with the projects.

In conclusion, having just a SIM card that will enable me switch from 9mobile to MTN to Airtel to Glo, without buying multiple SIM is really a great innovation.
