Facebook has announced a new policy that has to be strictly adhered, that will remove all spammy garbage on your timeline. Any post with engagement bait titles that asked users to engage with them in any way will be demoted and wiped out from people’s view.
Bait engagement tactics has become very popular nowadays where a post creator will ask users to “Type “INFO” in the comment box”, “Type “YES” to view this image”, “Tag someone if”, “Comment if you”, e.t.c. These get people to interact with them, which in turn increases their engagements and makes them rank higher.
Facebook will start demoting and downranking these type of posts very soon. The developers has create a machine learning model to go through those posts and demote them as they have reviewed and categorized hundreds of such posts.
Facebook is currently giving a warning for publishers to adapt and stop their engagement baiting techniques before rolling out the changes in the coming weeks. Pages who continue to do that will see low posts reach and eventually the entire page itself.
According to Facebook post, it says;
“People have told us that they dislike spammy posts on Facebook that goad them into interacting with likes, shares, comments, and other actions. For example, “LIKE this if you’re an Aries!” This tactic, known as “engagement bait,” seeks to take advantage of our News Feed algorithm by boosting engagement in order to get greater reach. So, starting this week, we will begin demoting individual posts from people and Pages that use engagement bait.”
This will eventually stop all baiting techniques publishers are using in getting engagements. It’s likely they will bring out other tactics to attract users but now that Facebook is ready for them, it’s sure the trend won’t happen anymore in the future.
