Private Conversations now have end-to-end encryption on Skype

Microsoft owned service, Skype has partnered up with Signal to add new functionality of end-to-end encryption to private conversations which is optional for chats and not default.

To start a new Private Conversation, you need to click on the “+” icon, then select the Self-Descriptive New Private Conversation option and select the contact.

An invitation will be sent to the person which will expire in 7 days time and if the person accepts your invite, the private message will only be available to you on that specific device. If you wish to switch to another device, you need to resend another invitation.

In Private Conversation, you can’t edit messages, forward files but only emoticons, files and audio messages are available to send. Even the Private Conversation will have a lock icon next to your contact’s name and preview messages will not show up in Chats or notifications.

However, Skype’s app insiders can now see the preview while the non-insider users will have it soon. What’s your say?
